The New Paradigm for the Age of AI

We’ve had LLMs for years, yet most products still use them poorly. The common pattern is to bolt an AI assistant onto every existing tool—websites, email, apps, IDEs — and call it “helpful.” This is the wrong model.

Why? Because it increases complexity. Good UX reduces cognitive load. Adding AI on top of already complex tools forces users to juggle:

  • the product’s native complexity

  • plus the complexity of AI interaction

The result is mental overhead and stress.

The correct model is the inverse:
AI should absorb complexity, not expose it.
Users should interact with AI, and AI should operate the tools on their behalf.

Until engineers, designers, and product managers adopt this shift —
from AI as an add-on to AI as the interface —
AI will remain a powerful technology with disappointing user value.
