github is the new download.com (post for those who still remember download.com)

I made a script for merging subtitles (example on the left) because when I googled it, I couldn't find a software that would do it for me, so I thought, well, it is just a few lines of code. And yes, it was about 30 minutes worth of typing, debugging and testing, but after I finally finished, and uploaded it to https://github.com/master0v/subtitle_merge' I thought that I could not have been the first one to come up with this idea, and so I searched github for
"subtitle merge"

Low and behold - there were 64 identical projects. I could've just saved myself 30 minutes of my time.

I previously found some genuinely useful software on github. Of course your milage may vary, because people upload all kinds of stuff to github, and I have found myself downloading a bunch of undocumented spaghetty code only to find out that it doesn't work after an hour of debugging, but still, I thing I will make it a habit of searching github anytime before I sit down to code anything.
